Hours: 40 hours per week
Schedule:
Primarily Days. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required to meet with Sponsors, Board of Directors or to participate in Caritas Center related activities. Approximately 20% of time will be dedicated to Fund Raising.

Job Purpose
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of the Caritas Center and operates under the direction and advice of the Caritas Center Board of Directors. This position has full accountability for the daily operations of the Center in meeting its mission of ministry to client services, volunteer management and maintaining member church and community relations. This position is accountable for the consistent achievement of the Caritas Center mission.

Duties / Responsibilities
A. Planning, Leading, Organizing, Controlling

• Accountable for monitoring and scheduling building and office equipment maintenance.
• Maintain awareness of current governmental programs, regulations, and local programs as related to Caritas Outreach Ministries.
• Accountable for all funds, non-monetary donations, physical assets and other Caritas Center property. Maintain effective systems of controls to account for all receipts and expenditure of funds.
• Work effectively with other non-profit providers, commercial vendors, government agencies, community groups and other organizations as necessary; Negotiate and administer contracts as directed by the Board.
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors in the development, implementation and evaluation of plans, procedures and policies.
• Develop budgets including the annual operating budget for submission to the Board; ensure compliance with approved budgets; propose revisions, as necessary.
• Utilize data collections systems for reports that depict the accomplishments of programs, budget uses, number of clients served, hours served by volunteers, and churches, businesses, individual gifts given to Caritas Center and other reports as requested by the Board of Directors. • Develop documented systems for ongoing operations of the organization for growth and management of the organization.
• Protect Caritas Center’s legal interests and maintain its operations within the law. Upon Caritas Board’s consent, retain and work with outside counsel to obtain opinions or handle claims and litigation.
• Negotiate and meet all terms of building lease.

B. Employee-Volunteer Management

• Encourage employees and volunteers to recognize and demonstrate the love of Christ as they carry out the ecumenical outreach duties in the fulfillment of the Caritas Center mission.
• Hire and terminate subordinate staff positions with board approval. Supervise the recruitment, hiring, training, assignment and evaluation of performance.
• Recommend salary and benefits for positions to the Board of Directors for approval.
• Address complaints and resolve problems of all Caritas Center volunteers and employees.
• Accountable for the recruitment, training, assignment and recognition of volunteers. Delegates duties as appropriate to employees and qualified volunteers.

C. Client Relations

• Accountable for interviewing, screening and using computer data bases to get to know clients and their needs.
• Administer, counsel, and guide clients in solving their needs in a manner that demonstrates the integration of a personal love of Christ and a commitment to serve people and families in need.
• Make decisions regarding appropriate services and/or goods offered to clients using Caritas Center resources based on criteria established by the Board of Directors and/or referring clients to appropriate resources.
• Accountable for maintaining and managing client confidentiality.
• Accountable for Triage and resolution of client complaints. Keep the Board informed about client issues, complaints, resolutions that have potential impact for the organization.

D. Church – Community Relations

• Responsible for communications with partner churches, social service organizations, non-profit organizations, northwest Spokane schools and personal contacts concerning the products and services provided by Caritas.
• Reach out to potential partner churches within the service area to establish new relationships with Caritas.
• Maintain ongoing communication between Caritas and Partner churches, volunteers and financial supporters regarding the needs of Caritas (time, talent, treasure)
• Represent Caritas Center in its business relationships with the media, community organizations, vendors, non-profit and other professional organizations.
• Function as a liaison and maintain a positive working relationship with Second Harvest and other supporting agencies.
• Respond to questions from partner churches, staff and members of the community in a timely manner and in concert with the mission and values of Caritas.
• Accountable for development and maintenance of social media (e.g. Facebook, etc.) and Caritas website as tools for sharing Caritas activities, needs, and other information of interest for our clients, supporters, volunteers and the public.

E. Fundraising

• Approximately 20% of time is expected in fundraising.
• Accountable for development and monitoring fundraising programs.
• Accountable for exploring grant opportunities and submitting grant requests
• Accountable for acknowledgement of donations and services.
• Accountable for exploring additional / new fundraising opportunities.
F. Board Relations
• Attend Board meetings, prepares documents as directed by the Board including a monthly directors report. Support all activities associated with the Board of Directors, including training, meeting schedules, locations, development of agenda in conjunction with the Board Chairperson and meeting materials.
• Develop annual strategic plan, goals and objectives in conjunction with the Board.
• Provide information, advice, and counsel to the Board Chairman, board committees/workgroups, and the Board of Directors in the creation of policies, programs, and direction of the Caritas Center.
• Display initiative in developing action plans and resolving problems as they occur in consultation with the Board Chairman and other members of the Board.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
Assume related responsibilities as appropriate or assigned by the Board.

Qualifications
• 4 year degree and 3 years relevant experience or equivalent education and experience to meet job qualifications.

Preferred qualifications
• Master’s degree in a related field with relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Skilled in strategic planning, outreach, development and fundraising.
• Ability to plan, direct and coordinate daily organizational activities; negotiate and administer contracts; work effectively with other nonprofit providers, commercial vendors, government agencies, community groups and other organizations as necessary.
• Strong leadership skills. Ability to mentor and motivate staff and volunteers.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of grant administration.
• Computer literate – ability to learn software programs.

Physical / Other Requirements
• A valid Washington state driver’s license
• Ability to drive to all areas covered by The Caritas Center
• Pass the criminal history background check
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
